Phendo is an observational research study conducted to establish a comprehensive catalog of the signs and symptoms of endometriosis as reported by individuals living with the condition. The study aims to provide valuable insights into the experiences of those affected by endometriosis for the purpose of advancing knowledge in this area.
Columbia University cordially invites you to participate in this significant research endeavor focusing on endometriosis, with the goal of enhancing our understanding of the disease and its impact on individuals.
In Phendo, participants have the opportunity to meticulously track their personal experiences with endometriosis at their convenience. The platform allows for flexible monitoring of a range of signs, symptoms, comorbid conditions, and self-management strategies, giving participants the autonomy to adjust their tracking preferences or opt out of tracking at any point.
The study operates as follows:
- Participants are required to provide consent before joining the study.
- Using the "track this moment" feature, participants are prompted to log individual instances of symptoms and signs as they occur.
- Through the "track this day" feature, participants are requested to monitor endometriosis symptoms and signs on a daily basis.
- The platform enables participants to review their input over time as data is entered into the application.
- All information collected is securely stored with a unique identification number, ensuring confidentiality and anonymity.
Eligibility criteria for participation in the study include:
- Adolescents and adults who have experienced menarche (first menstrual period).
- Participants under 18 years of age require parental permission to enroll, and parents or guardians must co-sign the consent form.
- Adolescents and adults who have encountered symptoms of endometriosis within the past 3 months.
The research is conducted by scholars from Columbia University's Department of Biomedical Informatics as part of the Citizen Endo research project.
Phendo offers a structured platform for tracking, managing, and gaining insights into the complexities of endometriosis, contributing significantly to ongoing research in this field.
